~ Dadaocheng Walking ~
100 years ago, Dadaocheng was just a large open space for sun-drying grains. In the mid 19th century, a river port was established here, and the site slowly developed as a wholesale distribution center, brimming with sellers of Chinese medicines, tea, regional specialty goods, rice and fabrics. Today, this old-city area is undergoing revitalization, with old buildings given new life, cultural-creative shops bringing in new energy. Visiting here is as fascinating, like visiting a museum without boundaries. Walk into the old buildings and listen to the stories of inheritance and innovation.
Wandering in the Dadaocheng area, you will find different styles of 100 year-old buildings everywhere, from Southern Fujian style to mock Baroque style architecture. The historic storefronts along Dihua Street are very deep and narrow, each with a factory, warehouse or residence behind, lending an air of distinction to this cluster of old-fashioned houses.

~ River Cruise on Blue Highway ~
Since early times, the Keelung River and Tamsui River have been major transport waterways through the city of Taipei. Today, the ship no longer ferry goods and commuters, but rather carry passengers attracted by the city's riverside charm.
Admiring the beauty of Taipei City during a river cruise is an absolutely rewarding experience. Taipei’s Blue Highway was inaugurated on February 7, 2004 and has increasingly become a must-visit, thanks to the City Government’s ongoing river and waterfront improvement projects. Currently, 10 fixed routes are available at five wharves along Tamsui and Keelung Rivers.

~ Stroll on Tamsui Old Street ~
The English name "Tamsui" is a romanisation of the original Taiwanese Hokkien name for the town, roughly pronounced in Hokkien as dǎm zwèe. In actuality, everyone refers to this town by the Mandarin Chinese name "Danshui".
Tamsui Old Street is divided into the inner and outer side. The outer street is the golden anchor walkway of Tamsui river coast, while the inner side is a traditional old street lined with bustling shops. There are faithfully traditional pastry shops, groceries and stores selling trendy outfits and toys. The popular foods in the area include A Gei, fish ball, fried fish crackers, traditionally baked cake, Granny’s iron eggs, etc. are all must try goodies. In the evening, the beautiful scenery of the sun setting below the ocean horizon can be seen along the golden anchor walkway.
The must try local snack “A-Gei” is transliterated partly from the Japanese word of “Oiled Tofu”. Prepared by emptying the center of the Tofu, adding fried clear noodles and soaking in marinade, then sealed off with fish mince and steamed. Sweet sour sauce or secret recipe of the store is poured on top before serving.
